US HISTORY 20th CENTURY RESEARCH ESSAY
You’re charged with researching, exploring, writing and presenting one of the many interesting events that occurred in the mid to late 20th century. ALL events ARE researchable and a GREAT place to begin is your TEXTBOOK!

When you take notes on your topic be mindful to incorporate WHEN your event took place, WHERE it took place, WHO was involved, WHY the event occurred (what made it happen), WHAT occurred and HOW it happened. Your finished product should include (in order) an MLA style title page, a five to seven-paragraph (5-7) essay, a picture page and a constructed map (drawn & colored by you) or a timeline (made by you), and an MLA style works cited page.

Research paper requirements:
oFirst Page: MLA format, including your name, date, period & title, formatted correctly.
oEssay: Five to seven-paragraphs including an introduction & conclusion.

oPicture page: Pictures that best represent your event AND CAPTIONS in your own words.
oMap or Timeline: Constructed by you (NOT copied off the web) and colored.
oWorks Cited: MLA style works cited page. Go to the following address to create a works cited page.
I like bibme, but you’re welcome to use another online citation generator. Be mindful that when you paste your citations into Word you have to format the font so it is all uniform. You also have to ALPHABETIZE your list of sources. Cite your information only, not the pictures. You need a minimum of five (5) resources, of which two (2) must be books!
oNeatness: Neatness, uniformity of font, readability.
oPostcard: Prepare and present a 5x7 (or two 3x5) index cards on your topic. SUMMARIZE the MAIN POINTS of your event/topic CLEARLY and CONSISELY for your classmates. Postcard presentation should only take 30-45 seconds.

In addition to researching your topic and completing the essay, you’ll have to take notes, complete classroom assignments, and complete an essay template, all for credit. You’ll also be learning about most of the topics in class.
